While freezing is rare in South Carolina, it’s not impossible. Pool water begins to freeze at 32 degrees Fahrenheit, but the biggest concern is regarding pipes and equipment and the damage that can result from their freezing. These tips will help you avoid the ice:

• Run your pump 24/7 to keep water circulating.
• Regularly check equipment for signs of freezing.
• If you have a pool cover, leave it in the open position. 

If your pool has an automated system and water features, these features will not turn on if the cover is closed during freezing weather. It’s important that these water features turn on during freezing temperatures to prevent freezing pipes. This is why your pool cover should remain open during freezing weather.
